Stafford also helps our region with donations and community support.
Stafford supports many local charities and organizations, including law enforcement agencies, churches, youth sports leagues, and civic groups — so many that it would take several pages here to list them all. As it has been for more than 90 years, today’s Stafford family is committed to the honesty, hard work, morals and values that have created our long-standing mission:
Leadership starts at the top, of course, and owners Curtis Stafford and Charlie Stafford, as well as General Manager Steve Laramie, are all active members in their communities and involved members of Laconia Rotary Club and Laconia Elks Lodge. They are also incorporators and board members for several local organizations.
Major areas of our support include:
United Way: Each year at our annual Employee Appreciation Dinner, we kick off our annual campaign. We also hold a prize drawing for employees who sign up to contribute to the United Way. Since 1999, Stafford (through corporate donations) and its employees (through payroll withdrawal) have donated more than $140,000 to the cause. Also, when our local United Way office holds its annual Day of Sharing, some of our employees will often spend the day working for a United Way-funded agency.
Muscular Dystrophy Association: We play an active role in major fundraising efforts spearheaded by CITGO each year on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The money we raise not only helps in the fight against neuromuscular diseases, but it also allows for children to attend MDA camp each summer.
Operation Helping Hand: We donate heating fuel each year to this non-profit organization that was established by the Oil Heat Council and is administered by the New Hampshire National Guard Chaplain to help active military personnel with their home heating bills.
Some of the other organizations we support include, but are not limited to, The Boys and Girls Club of the Lakes Region, the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, VFW, the WLNH Children’s Auction, Got Lunch!, the Mayhew Program, Genesis Behavioral Health, the Special Olympics, the Laconia Multicultural Festival, Lakes Region Conservation Trust, Laconia Area Community Land Trust, The Salvation Army, and various youth baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, skiing, ice hockey, and lacrosse teams and events.
We are also extremely proud that our employees hold several fund raising events throughout the year to provide immediate help to families in crisis. This may take the form of gas cards so families can visit loved ones in the hospital, fuel oil and service work to provide winter heat, clothing, and even Christmas gifts for children.
In all these ways and others, we try to do our best to give back to the communities that have done so much for our Stafford Oil family.
